Student Teaching Through a Pandemic: College Students Focus on Future of Education

For Landon Lackey, a master’s degree student at University of Tennessee at Knoxville and intern at South-Doyle Middle School, the pandemic has confirmed to him that in-person teaching is the most effective way to teach but he said his overall goal of becoming a social studies teacher hasn’t changed. “I don’t personally have a whole lot to compare it to just since this is my first year interning and I personally have not been in high school in over 20 years,” Lackey said with a chuckle. “So I don’t have that recent experience as a student in high school or having been a teacher in previous years to compare it to, but it’s worked pretty smoothly all things considered.”
